Webinar: Hepatitis Prevention, Testing, and Treatment as Liver Cancer Prevention
Approximately 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with primary liver cancer and it is one of the only cancers that continues to rise. Of all liver cancer cases, up to 50% are related to hepatitis B and up to 60% are related to hepatitis C, both of which are preventable. October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month which is an important opportunity to explore the connection between liver cancer and viral hepatitis, and examine how hepatitis prevention, testing, and treatment can be liver cancer prevention. This webinar highlighted campaigns such as Prevent Cancer Foundation’s Think about the Link, explored messages and materials that can be used to address the connection between liver cancer and viral hepatitis, and examined models of integrating liver cancer prevention into hepatitis education, prevention, testing, and treatment efforts through examples from Hepatitis B United-Philadelphia and the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition.
