Insurance Claims Data

overview

In addition to data to care initiatives that leverage HIV surveillance data for linkage and retention activities, there are new opportunities to use health systems data, including public and private insurance claims and electronic health record data, to advance public health. The need to use claims and other health systems data to measure effectiveness of public health interventions, address health disparities, and improve quality of prevention and care services is even more important as millions of Americans gain public and private insurance coverage. Our claims data resources and technical assistance provide information and best practices for use of claims and electronic health record data from Medicaid and insurance to inform public health programs, including tracking enrollment and health care utilization of priority populations and measuring health outcomes across the HIV Care Continuum
