NASTAD’s HIV prevention technical assistance and capacity building programs support state and local HIV prevention programs in implementing modern, dynamic responses to their HIV epidemics. NASTAD’s prevention work covers the entire HIV care continuum, including: 

  • HIV Testing - The first line of defense on the HIV care continuum is an HIV test. NASTAD’s HIV testing technical assistance and capacity building program brings an unmatched depth of experience through peer-to-peer technical assistance to optimize targeted and routine opt-out HIV testing, integrated screening for other STDs, hepatitis, and TB and leverage performance standards, third-party billing, new testing technologies and collaboration with laboratories and surveillance. 
  • Comprehensive Prevention with HIV-Positive Individuals - Linkage to and retention in care helps ensure that individuals living with HIV receive life-saving medical care and treatment, and thereby reducing the risk of transmitting HIV. NASTAD’s prevention with HIV-positive individuals technical assistance and capacity building program leverages expertise from its vast peer network to promote best practices in supporting people living with HIV in achieving viral suppression, leveraging new health care systems opportunities and improving use of data. 
  • Policy & Programs - NASTAD’s HIV prevention work supports state and local health department policy development in breaking down program silos and integrating data to improve the targeting of HIV prevention services.
