MSM Sensitization Training for Health Care Workers in South Africa

NASTAD South Africa, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Health, The Networking HIV, AIDS Community of South Africa (NACOSA) and the California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center, developed a course for healthcare workers who provide HIV prevention and care services to MSM. These trainings increased providers’ awareness of the stigma and challenges that MSM face in the healthcare setting, and built providers’ knowledge and skill in providing culturally sensitive and competent care to gay men and other MSM.

With the help of NACOSA, NASTAD South Africa hosted multiple workshops in Cape Town and the surrounding areas, bringing together healthcare providers as well as members of the local LGBT community in order to foster greater engagement and sensitivity.
