Purpose and Description
The Prevention Coordinator will provide local management of NASTAD’s prevention work in Trinidad and Tobago. The Coordinator acts as the on-the-ground presence for NASTAD’s technical assistance to targeted health facilities and will provide both technical and logistical support to implement and report on priority activities.

Essential Functions
At the health facility level:

  • Developing strong relationships with all key staff at the facility 
  • Providing training, mentorship and side-by-side support to site staff 
  • Maintaining appropriate processes and tools for project implementation, reporting, and monitoring progress 
  • Supporting use of data generated by clinic activities to identify and adopt best practices
  • Ensuring site level data reports are complete, accurate and timely

At the national level:

  • Developing strong relationships with the HIV/AIDS Coordinating Unit at the Ministry of Health 
  • Maintaining communication with Ministry of Health staff to ensure awareness and involvement in site level activities
  • Reporting out to national level stakeholders on program monitoring at the site level
  • Maintaining appropriate communication and information flow with other NASTAD and CDC staff to ensure organizational resources are fully leveraged 
  • Applying strategic and innovative vision to overcome obstacles to implementation
  • Identifying the most critical hurdles to scale-up of program activities, and refining NASTAD’s approach to address these hurdles 

Programmatic and Technical:

  • Provides guidance for implementation of technical assistance activities to meet donor targets for new patients started on HIV treatment, and returning patients who have been lost to follow-up to HIV treatment
  • Liaises with governmental and civil society stakeholders to improve community-level acceptance, access and use of health services
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations on data security and confidentiality

Resource Management and Administration:

  • Requests, expends, monitors, and reports on program funds spent on prevention work
  • Maintains knowledge of all pertinent NASTAD policies 

Minimum Requirements

  • 2-5 years of experience implementing HIV/AIDS prevention, care and/or treatment programs preferred
  • Demonstrated success implementing clinical and administrative changes in a healthcare setting in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Successfully served in a leadership role requiring in depth knowledge of clinical processes
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health, and/or Regional Health Authority staff a plus
  • Competency with vulnerable populations through experience in counseling, advocacy, or health care; experience with civil society organizations supporting vulnerable populations is an asset
  • A suitable alternative combination of work and education will be considered
  • Successful applicants must demonstrate legal employment eligibility to work and reside in Trinidad and Tobago

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, including HIV prevention, care and treatment best practices and approaches 
  • Must be great mentor, manager, role model and team player/builder 
  • Project management skills 
  • Exceptional ability to work independently and autonomously
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with partners, staff, and colleagues with a high level of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Understand how to effectively build new relationships as well as nurture/strengthen existing ones at multiple levels in government
