NASTAD works with policy makers and public health officials to increase federal support for HIV and hepatitis prevention, testing, education, research, and treatment. NASTAD does this through outreach, including meetings and funding requests, with Congressional Members and their staff and through the President’s Office of Management and Budget.

Additionally, NASTAD is a part of the AIDS Budget and Appropriations Coalition (ABAC) and convenes the Hepatitis Appropriations Partnership (HAP), which continuously advocate for HIV and hepatitis funding for state and local health departments, community-based organizations, providers, research, and others. These groups coordinate advocacy activities and appropriations requests among a variety of stakeholder organizations and author funding charts, grassroots letters to Congress, and organizes Dear Colleagues in the House and Senate for increased funding.
