Health Systems Integration
Health Systems Data

overview
Health systems data sources including Medicaid claims, All Payer Claims Databases, and Electronic Health Records (EHRs)/Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) have become increasingly important for public health programs in recent years. There are opportunities for public health programs to leverage health systems data to augment public health surveillance and ultimately improve health outcomes for a number of health issues.
To support health department HIV and hepatitis programs in their ability to leverage these data, NASTAD has developed multiple resources and provides ongoing technical assistance focused on best practices for use of claims and encounter data. The resources below support health departments to use health systems data to track enrollment and healthcare utilization of priority populations, measure health outcomes across the HIV and HCV Care Continuums, develop data sharing agreements with payers and other health systems data sources, and using health systems data to augment HIV and HCV surveillance data.
