Health Equity

overview

The World Health Organization states that “Equity is the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people, whether those groups are defined socially, economically, demographically or geographically or by other means of stratification.” The vision of the Health Equity team is to dismantle systemic barriers and shift power dynamics by emphasizing the historical context through which our system operates and centering communities in order to produce measurable changes and support everyone in leading healthier lives. NASTAD recognizes that without social justice we will not achieve the end of the HIV and Hepatitis epidemics. Therefore, we integrate social justice into all the work that we do and into the decisions that we make. More importantly, we must not be afraid to act and be vulnerable as we do our part.
