AIDS DRUG ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS SUPPORT 68,000 CLIENTS WITH GAINING INSURANCE COVERAGE THROUGH THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

overview
Health department HIV and hepatitis programs are adapting to changes in the health coverage landscape to ensure that the current models of care, provider expertise, and public health functions are integrated into reforms. NASTAD assists health departments in adapting their programs in many areas including: evaluating the insurance landscape; assessing coverage and affordability gaps, including the comprehensiveness of drug formularies; ensuring the infrastructure to assist clients in affording new insurance; understanding the interaction of Ryan White Program rules with new health coverage options and preparing systems and contractors for third party billing. NASTAD also leads federal efforts to protect the progress made through implementation of the Affordable Care Act and ensure that any changes to federal health policy preserves access to care and prevention for people living with and at risk for HIV and hepatitis.
