HIV Prevalence (UNAIDS, 2014)

From 2003 to 2015, NASTAD Botswana provided technical assistance to Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLG&RD), National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) and Ministry of Health (MOH).  NASTAD’s TA specifically helped strengthen the objectivity, structure and focus of the district planning process by ensuring the use of evidence in all HIV and AIDS district planning processes and the integration and coordination of programs, stakeholders and resources at different levels.   NASTAD also worked closely with MLG&RD and NACA to build a fully functional Community Capacity Enhancement through Community Conversation (CCE-CC) implementation system and structures by developing guidelines, standard operating procedures and tools.  The program empowered and improved the level of community participation and ownership in the HIV/AIDS response.   NASTAD TA also helped the development of a comprehensive training curriculum that was applicable to the current District AIDS Coordinators (DAC) job responsibilities, adaptable to the changing role of the DACs in the larger public health landscape in Botswana, and demonstrated in increase in the DACs confidence and capacity to be effective leaders and managers.

In addition, NASTAD also partnered with MLG&RD, NACA, district level structures, FHI360, and other district core partners to strengthen district health systems for effective coordination, collaboration, cooperation with CSOs to accomplish shared responsibilities for district level HIV and AIDS program design, implementation and reporting. The technical assistance and support provided enhanced the district level partnership, collaboration and coordination frameworks between government and CSOs and strengthened the technical and organizational capacity of CSOs/NGOs to deliver strategic and high quality HIV/AIDS services. NASTAD Botswana was closed after a successful transition of all project activities to MLG&RD, NACA and other key partners in March 31, 2015.
