Effective HIV Prevention Programs
Implementation of effective HIV prevention interventions: use of cost
effectiveness methodologies, a comprehensive approach to preventing blood borne
infections among injection drug users(IDUs), individual, community, structural
and policy approaches to preventing the sexual transmission of HIV, primary
prevention for HIV infected individuals, HIV prevention in communities of color
and HIV prevention in under-served/rural areas.
Implementation of Community Planning
Participation in CDC-supported Community Planning Technical Assistance Network
providing support to health departments and communities on the effective
implementation of community planning. Facilitation of increased coordination
between health departments, community planning groups, directly-funded entities
and technical assistance providers to maximize resources, build capacity and
respond to community-identified priorities.
Reducing Stigma, Discrimination and Disparities
Strategies for reducing stigma, discrimination and disparities impacting the
transmission of HIV prevention. Information sharing on the consequences and
prevention implications of homophobia, racism, and classism. Focuses on
reducing the stigma and discrimination faced by HIV positive individuals.
Primary Prevention for Communities of Color
Information sharing and TA around health department efforts to support
prevention in communities of color, particularly on technical assistance and
capacity building to minority community-based agencies and targeted HIV testing
and referral efforts linking testing to prevention and care services in
communities of color. Developing a monograph focused on recommendations for
state/local AIDS directors in addressing HIV/AIDS in African American
communities, and developing Fact Sheets for each racial/ethnic minority
community.
HIV/STD Prevention for Youth
Information exchange and TA on HIV/STD prevention for youth, especially youth
in high-risk situations, youth involvement in community planning, state
health/education agency collaboration, and proactive strategies for addressing
challenges to comprehensive school health and challenges to HIV/STD prevention. |
