NASTAD gives special recognition and honors upon outstanding leaders in the
fight against the HIV/AIDS. NASTAD awards include the Nicholas A. Rango
Leadership Award and the NASTAD Service Award, given for outstanding leadership
and service to the organization. NASTAD also periodically recognizes
individuals from media, foundations, research institutions, federal agencies,
partner organizations, and governmental representatives who have supported the
mission and goals of NASTAD.

Rango Award
The
Nicholas A. Rango,
MD Leadership Award(Rango Award), given each year during NASTAD’s Annual
Meeting, is named for one of NASTAD’s founding members, Dr. Nicholas Rango,
director of the New York State AIDS Institute before his death from AIDS in
1993. To honor Dr. Rango’s spirit and work, NASTAD recognizes the AIDS director
or state and territorial health department staff member who best exemplifies
Dr. Rango’s qualities of superior intelligence, dedication, activism in
government, and passion in leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.
